Blogging in the classroom
Undoubtedly, blogging is a useful teaching/learning technical tool that has been more and more used nowadays. As we know, "it incorporates a number of new literacies necessary to successfully exploit the rapidly changing information and communication technologies in our world". Since I am still getting familiar with it, I would (probably will) start with a class blog where my students and I would share authorship and contribute content. This way, it would be a tool for "collective and collaborative learning". And, in order to engage the students, it is important to add images and videos, and let them do so, too. I also think that starting with something enigmatic, such as Carla's "mystery guest activity" is a great idea.
Students usually show a kind of resistance when it comes to writing. They usually say that they don't know what to write. Through blogs, will students certainly feel more enthusiastic and comfortable, since "posting" is part of most of them's their daily life.
Improving students' writing skills through blogging is just one among several reasons for making it part of our teaching strategies. There are lots of other reasons.
